Always learning and understanding your dog

A certified Tellington TTouch® Practitioner is trained to use gentle, mindful techniques that promote physical, emotional, and behavioural balance in animals. Through extensive study and hands-on practice, Practitioners learn how to apply bodywork, body wraps, and movement exercises to enhance communication, reduce stress, and support overall wellbeing. This approach is grounded in compassion, observation, and the belief that every animal deserves to be treated with respect and understanding.

A qualified Emmett Therapist for dogs is trained in the EMMETT Technique, a gentle, neuro-muscular release therapy that helps relieve tension, discomfort, and improve mobility. Using light touch at specific points on the body, the therapist works to support the dog’s physical and emotional wellbeing. This technique is non-invasive, calming, and suitable for dogs of all ages and activity levels.

Support & Supporting the Guardian
At Alba Dogs, supporting both dogs and their guardians is at the heart of everything we do.
Through my own experience of living with a sensitive dog, I understand just how overwhelming the human world can be for them and how isolating it can feel for us as their caregivers. I’ve been there myself: in classes that didn’t feel right, feeling deflated and like we didn’t quite fit. That experience shaped my promise, no one will ever leave Alba Dogs feeling like that.
We believe the emotional wellbeing of the guardian is just as important as the wellbeing of the dog. When you’re supported, informed, and surrounded by others who truly understand, everything becomes more manageable and even joyful.
Walking Together: A Supportive Membership Community
I created the Alba Dogs Walking Together Membership to support people who find walking their sensitive dogs challenging. It can be lonely when you can’t stop and chat on walks or feel like you’re the only one struggling, but you’re not alone.
This membership offers:
• A private, safe, and understanding community
• Emotional support from people who truly get it
• Shared experiences, practical guidance, and gentle encouragement
• Opportunities to connect and even form lasting friendships
It’s a space where you and your dog are seen, heard, and supported just as you are.
Let Alba Dogs be the place where you and your dog feel understood, not judged. Because no one should have to navigate this journey alone.
Membership costs £15/month. You get monthly course work on different topics for you and your dog and online and a private Facebook Group for discussion

Canine Coaching at Alba Dogs
Canine Coaching at Alba Dogs is about supporting both the dog and their guardian in a way that respects how each is feeling—emotionally, mentally, and physically.
We believe that emotions influence behaviour. A dog (or person) who is shy, overwhelmed, or unsure may react very differently in a situation than one who feels calm and confident. Emotional and mental balance can even affect posture and movement, which in turn shapes how a dog behaves and copes in the world.
All of our coaching is delivered through the principles of Animal Centred Education (ACE), developed by Sarah Fisher and inspired by her work with rescue dogs. At the heart of this approach is ACE Free Work, a gentle, rewarding way for dogs to learn that gives them the freedom to explore, make choices, and build confidence at their own pace. Free Work offers dogs the opportunity to opt in or opt out of activities, supporting their emotional safety and ensuring they are ready and willing to learn before we ask anything of them.
At Alba Dogs, we make careful observations to understand how your dog is feeling and moving. We then work gently and supportively to help them become more comfortable in their body, building relaxation and confidence from the inside out.
Our coaching gives guardians the confidence and skills to support their dog through:
• Thoughtful management strategies
• Lead handling techniques that encourage trust and communication
• Gentle bodywork to help improve posture and reduce tension
This is not traditional obedience training where dogs are expected to perform tasks on command. Instead, we offer a dog-led approach where your dog is given choice, autonomy, and time—working at a pace that honours their unique needs and personality.
Every session is as individual as your dog. That doesn’t mean dogs are left to do whatever they like—especially in situations where safety matters, such as near roads—but it does mean we teach life skills like recall and loose lead walking through mutual respect and clear communication, not force or pressure.
Let Alba Dogs guide you in building a stronger, more trusting relationship with your dog—one that’s rooted in understanding, compassion, and choice.

Tellington TTouch® at Alba Dogs
TTouch is short for Tellington TTouch®, a gentle, respectful approach to working with animals that focuses on posture, balance, and emotional wellbeing. It was founded over 50 years ago by Linda Tellington-Jones, whose revolutionary ideas were far ahead of their time. Long before most trainers or behaviourists considered the connection between the body and behaviour, Linda recognised that posture and emotional state are deeply linked and that by working with the body, we can positively influence how an animal feels and behaves.
Drawing on her background with horses and the Feldenkrais Method, Linda developed TTouch bodywork and ground-based exercises that gently support the nervous system, increase body awareness, and improve communication between animal and guardian.
At Alba Dogs, we use TTouch bodywork to:
• Build trust and confidence
• Support emotional regulation
• Assist with physical healing and relaxation
• Deepen the connection between dog and guardian
We also use TTouch groundwork, where dogs mindfully move through low-impact obstacle patterns while guided on lead. This encourages better posture, coordination, balance, and focus. The combination of gentle touch and mindful movement creates a powerful way to support dogs who may be anxious, reactive, recovering from injury, or simply needing a bit more calm and connection.
This thoughtful and kind approach has helped countless animals and in some cases, it has truly changed or even saved lives.

Emmett Technique for Dogs at Alba Dogs
The Emmett Technique is a gentle body therapy that uses light finger pressure to release muscle tension and support comfort and mobility. It works with the nervous system to bring about often immediate improvements in posture, relaxation, and ease of movement.
Although Emmett is very calming and non-invasive, its effects can be deeply therapeutic — often subtle to observe but powerful for the dog. Many dogs find the sessions relaxing and may show signs of release such as yawning, softening in posture, or choosing to lie down.
At Alba Dogs, Emmett sessions are carried out in a peaceful, supportive environment where your dog is always given choice and comfort.
Under the Veterinary Surgeons Act, veterinary consent is required before Emmett therapy can be offered to your dog. This can be arranged via a quick phone call to your vet, or I can provide a consent form for you to take to your veterinary practice for completion.
In addition to working with dogs, I can also offer Emmett moves for handlers. These simple, gentle techniques can help improve your own posture, ease of movement, and balance — especially helpful when handling your dog on lead or supporting them through more sensitive moments. When both ends of the lead feel physically more at ease, communication improves and the partnership strengthens.

TESTIMONIALS
What Our Clients Are Saying

I decided to try my 2 dogs with sensory work after realising how stressed my Westie was with traffic. The first session was interesting as Wallace (Westie) was not really interested and crying and Harris (Scottie) had a little try but didn’t last too long. However, we persevered, and both boys now absolutely love the sensory work and have developed a keen nose for a trail. The sensory helps bring them back down when they are overwhelmed and hyped up. And best of all - they sleep when they get back as they are so chilled out. Pauline’s set up is amazing - never seen anything else like it - and highly recommend her calm, knowledgeable presence.
Angela with Harris & Wallace

Chewy and I started our t touch journey with Pauline, a wee while back. Chewy is a big dog with a big heart but gets nervous when he’s on lead ( can’t get away) Pauline has taught me to observe him in a more empathic way, to understand where he’s coming from and shown us many techniques to calm him and help him cope in these situations. Since training with Pauline I feel Chewy and I have a deeper bond, a stronger connection as I understand his emotions and look for underlying reasons for behaviour, dogs are sentient being and should be treated as such. Pauline is open, warm and very knowledgeable, Chewy and I are now on the right path and look forward to continuing our journey. Totally recommend to anyone .
Pauline & Chewy

Pauline is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate and supportive. Being in the Alba Dogs room allows you to spend time with your dog in a unique way, strengthening your bond and learning to support them with things they may find difficult. Whether attending ACE freework, TTouch workshops or training, or popping along for a sensory session, your dog WILL thank you for it.
I’m so glad to have been visiting Pauline with my rescue dog for over two years. I have no doubt it has improved his wellbeing, behaviour, and helped us work through life’s challenges with a better understanding of each other.
