Who Is Alba Dogs For?
One of the questions I’ve been thinking about recently is: “Who is Alba Dogs actually for?”
It’s a really important question for any small business. If we don’t know who we are trying to help. It can be difficult to create the right services, the right content and, most importantly, to reach the people who genuinely need what we offer.

So, let me introduce you to the people I believe Alba Dogs is here for.
You love your dog deeply - but sometimes you don’t understand them.
Perhaps you have a dog who is nervous, sensitive, worried, reactive or easily overwhelmed.
Maybe walks have become stressful.
You might find yourself scanning the environment before your dog does, wondering what might trigger them today.
Perhaps your dog barks at other dogs, struggles with people, reacts to noises, finds new
places difficult or simply seems to be “on edge”.
Or maybe your dog isn’t displaying what we traditionally think of as a behaviour problem at all.
Perhaps they are becoming quieter.
They take longer to settle.
They seem less confident.
They struggle with changes in their environment.
Or you have simply noticed that something feels different. And you want to understand why. You don’t want to just “fix” your dog.
This is probably one of the biggest things that defines the people I work with.
You aren’t looking for someone to tell you that your dog needs to be more obedient.
You don’t want to force your dog through something they find frightening.
You don’t want to suppress behaviour without understanding what is underneath it.
Instead, you want to learn how to listen to your dog.
You want to recognise the small changes in body language.
You want to understand when your dog is becoming overwhelmed.
You want to learn what helps them feel safer and more comfortable.
And you want practical things you can do together that build trust rather than conflict.
You are curious about your dog’s whole wellbeing.
At Alba Dogs, I look at the dog in front of me rather than simply looking at a behaviour.
That means considering movement, posture, environment, emotions, sensory experiences and the relationship between dog and guardian.

My work brings together approaches including ACE Free Work, Tellington TTouch® and
Emmett Therapy for Dogs, alongside observation and a willingness to slow things down.
Sometimes the smallest things can tell us so much.
The way your dog moves.
Where they choose to stand.
How they use their nose.
Whether they can settle.
How they respond to touch.
Where they hold tension.
What they choose when given an opportunity.
These observations aren’t about judging your dog. They’re about gathering information.
You may have a dog who doesn’t fit neatly into a box.
Perhaps you’ve been told your dog is:
“stubborn”
“dominant”
“naughty”
“reactive”
“anxious”
“difficult”
But you have a feeling there is more to the story. You know your dog has a softer side.
You know they can behave differently in other situations, And you’re beginning to wonder whether their behaviour is actually communication.
That’s where Alba Dogs comes in.
I’m interested in the dog underneath the behaviour.
What are they telling us?
What might they be finding difficult?
What can we change in their environment?
How can we give them more choice?
And how can we help them feel more comfortable in their own body?
You don’t necessarily have a “problem dog”.
This is important too.
You don’t have to wait until things become difficult before asking for help.
Perhaps you simply want to give your dog more opportunities to decompress.
Maybe your older dog needs some gentle enrichment.
Perhaps your puppy is learning about the world and you’d like to build confidence from the beginning.
Maybe your dog has experienced a big life change.
Or perhaps you simply want to spend some uninterrupted, quality time together while
learning more about them.
That’s why I love sensory sessions and ACE Free Work.
They aren’t just about dogs who are struggling.
They can be a wonderful way of getting to know your dog better.
And what about you?
Because Alba Dogs isn’t just about dogs.
It’s about the relationship between you and your dog.
You might be feeling frustrated. You might have lost confidence.
You may have stopped enjoying walks because you’re constantly worrying about what might happen.
You may feel that other people don’t understand why your dog behaves the way they do.
Perhaps you’ve tried different things already and you’re still searching for something that feels right.
I want you to know that you don’t have to have all the answers before you come to me.
You don’t need to know the terminology.
You don’t need to be an experienced dog trainer.
And you certainly don’t need to have a “perfect” dog.
You simply need to be curious and willing to look at your dog a little differently.
So, who is my target audience?
My target audience is you if you want a deeper understanding of your dog.
You’re someone who wants to work with their dog rather than simply control them.
You’re prepared to slow down.
You’re interested in observation.
You want to understand rather than assume.
You value kindness, choice and connection.
And you’re looking for practical ways to help your dog feel more comfortable, confident and balanced.
Your dog doesn’t need to be perfect.
Neither do you.
At Alba Dogs, Less Really Is More.
Sometimes we don’t need to do more.
Sometimes we need to pause, observe and listen.
Because when we start noticing the little things, they can make a very big difference.
Could this be you and your dog?
If it is, I’d love to welcome you to Alba Dogs.
Thank you for reading and I hope to help you and your dog soon.
Pauline
